When I was growing up, we commonly referred to our teachers by their last names. Mrs. Thompson. Mr. Miller. Ms. Craig. More relaxed, today’s schools often encourage children to call their teachers by their first names. Miss Darla. Mr. Phillip. Miss Ashley.

So when my husband and I asked our son, who was four at the time, which restaurant he’d like to go to for dinner, it made sense for him to reply, “I like Miss Donalds and Miss Wendys.”
